Events Meeting House Progress
Notices
Ashburton Quakers have acquired a Meeting House, the first new Meeting House of the 21st C. Five years to the day from when Friends held their first Thursday evening Meeting in Ashburton, we collected the keys to The Old Chapel, Foales Court, Ashburton; better known to locals as Church’s wood store. Within minutes we were sitting on two wood sawing benches, amongst the racking holding a quiet Meeting of thanks. Ashburton meeting house started life as a pair of terraced cottages back in the 1600’s and was converted to a Gospel Hall, when the railway came to Ashburton in the mid 19th C. For the past 50 years it has been used as a wood store for the local hardware shop and has become a little dilapidated inside, but dry and sound in construction. We hope to add luxuries like heating and water over the next couple of years.
We are a growing Meeting set up to serve spiritual needs in Ashburton under the governance of Totnes Meeting Meeting for Worship Times : 10:30 Sunday Mornings. 7pm on the 1st Thursday in each month. Our Meeting for Worship lasts for an hour on Sundays and 45 minutes on Thursdays. All are welcome: refreshments and opportunities for questions and conversation afterwards . IMPORTANT NOTICE Work has started on the Meeting House, so we have moved out temporarily. With effect from Sunday 28th November 2010, all meetings for worship are being held at the St.Johns Ambulance Hall, off West Street, (near to St. Andrews Parish Church), Ashburton. This is easy to get to through an archway from the car park mentioned below.
Normal permanent address: (but please see above) Can also be accessed by foot from Stapledon Lane. Ample parking is available in the Main Car Park - leave by the footbridge and Foales court is across the road beside the delicatessen. Free disabled parking is available in North Street outside the Silver Lion
